WITH HER THIRD album, nu-soul voice of reason India.Arie answers the question, how much wisdom is too much.
Once again she’s issuing her softly spoken advice on how to be a better person, love yourself and survive relationships, yet the rootsy naivety which made her debut single, ‘Video’, so fresh and vital, has worn thin, leaving a distinctly middle-aged record aimed at recently dumped Oprah viewers looking to redefine themselves.
Swaggering gospel street party ‘I Choose’ is proof that being a socially aware, independent woman can be fun and rewarding. Elsewhere, though, her sauntering melodies struggle under the weight of their worthy load.
