THE ANIMALS claim not to have played to much less than capacity crowds since Christmas and at Soho Flamingo last week they pulled over a thousand people.
It took almost ten minutes to get from one end of the club to the other and once in the band room, the Animals were besieged by hoards of fans.
When they managed to get onto the stage, they opened with a raving version of ‘Road Runner’ which spotlighted Hilton’s fine guitar work.
‘Night Time Is The Right Time’, ‘I’m Mad Again’, ‘Bright Lights Big City’, ‘I Ain’t Got You’ and ‘How You’ve Changed’ followed and had the fans yelling.
The Animals featured their U.S. hit ‘Boom Boom’ amid cheers while the temperature rose even higher. Those of us stuck in the band room caught only the occasional glimpse of the Animals when a gap appeared in the crowd.
‘Hallelujah I Love Her So’ and ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ brought the expected cheers and the Animals had to go back on stage for an encore of the mighty ‘Talkin’ About You’.
